The year I graduated from college, my fifth Alumni Run, another small step forward for North as we hang on to fourth despite the absence of Mike Morris. The biggest stories: Art Gunther's repeat title, tying John Trautmann with three career wins; Nanuet's women turning the tables on Clarkstown South; the Albertus men falling out of the top 3 for the first time in race history (not counting the inaugural 1983 shindig). But the most impressive performance again comes courtesy of the Suffern men, placing five scorers in the top 14 for a 43-point total; the team's top three all run under 15:50. The Mounties set a race record for victory margin as they beat Monroe Woodbury 43-117, a whopping 74-point difference. That record alone places the Mounties in very elite company; I rate Suffern's '97 squad as the sixth-best Alumni team in race history.
