1992

You want numbers? We got numbers. The Alumni Run saw a record turnout, more than doubling the previous record of 156 (1990) by attracting 334 runners, a mark which still stands today. While the race has yet to achieve such a lofty standard since then, the total number of runners consistently remains above 200 per year. I cannot account for the sudden spike in interest, except to hazard a guess--free beer.

Pearl River upsets the Albertus men for their second title while also reclaiming the women's title. The 13-point margin of victory for the Pirates represents the second-closest race in history. Again, I am flummoxed by the combined scoring. This year is particularly vexing due to the record numbers; Pearl River is the only women's team with five runners in the top 20, and therefore the only team I can confirm as a full women's team. While I thought that this might rob Nanuet of a victory (the Golden Knights nabbed four of the first six spots in the women's race) a closer look at the overall results reveals that no Nanuet runner, male or female, finished after the 20th female runner. Sorry, ladies. In fact, the only names I recognize in the last part of the results as being definitely female all belong to Pearl River runners and therefore would not affect the scoring. The Nanuet team that is complete, however--the men--drop from 7th to 9th as a result of eliminating the rather substantial help they received from their women.
