2010

For the second straight year, a clear, chilly, windy day greeted runners at the start; and for the second straight year, a high-scoring, tight battle in the men's team race. With eight teams represented among the top 10, high scores were sure to follow. The 2009 race saw records for the highest winning score (81 points) and the smallest victory margin (1 point, at 81-82)...and both those results nearly repeated themselves, with Pearl River narrowly edging the repeat bid of Monroe Woodbury, 80-82. Through the first four runners Tappan Zee actually had a 43-44-54 edge on the top two, but the Pirates were able to catch the Dutchmen and hold off the Crusaders in a tight battle.

Monroe Woodbury had no such concerns on the women's side, taking five of the top nine spots en route to the most lopsided victory in Alumni Race history. This despite "only" an eighth-place showing from eight-time women's champ Julianne Littman-Viscardo, who ran the race solidly into her second trimester. Future aspirants to the women's title have a clear blueprint for defeating Julianne: ensure that she is pregnant in November. This will at least give you a fighting chance.

Outstanding runs from the less-experienced members of my household: Thing #1 put up a good fight in the 5-6 race, despite having just turned five one week prior; Thing #2 dominated the toddlers' race; and my better half ran her first Alumni Race, sporting the red and gray of Upper Dublin (PA) High. Go Cardinals!

    1. Gary, I post full results for a lot of the recent races, but I can't go back a re-type 30 years worth of full results. Perhaps I can get the full files from Mike Collins at some point. Full 2015 results should be up any day.
